Hello everyone,
Thank goodness the school holidays are nearly over! Nutmeg and I have been so busy looking after Arthur and Lucy that we haven’t had time to write to you for nearly four weeks! I’m so sorry, but I can hardly tell you how hectic it’s all been. First there was the children’s camping trip, but no sooner had we survived that than we had to follow them to the seaside again – and then we arrived home to find that the broom cupboard had flooded, and the ballroom was under an inch of water! What a month it’s been. I hope we never have another August like it. But the children returned to school today, so finally life is resuming as normal. I’ll be in touch much more often now.
Goodnight!
Love,
Tumtum

Nutmeg found me, so we did come camping after all. And we’re STILL HERE! The children were only supposed to stay for two nights, but they’re having such fun, their father’s said they can stay a whole week. But Nutmeg didn’t pack nearly enough food in our hamper. All that’s left is a tin of cockroach eggs – and we can’t eat them, because Nutmeg forgot the tin opener!
Oh, I wish I was back at Nutmouse Hall.
Love,
Tumtum

Has anyone seen Tumtum?
‘Tumtum, where are you? Come and help me pack!’
Oh, dear. I think he must be hiding in the library. Poor old Tumtum – he doesn’t want to go camping at all! But the children are due to set off in less than two hours, so I’d better hurry up and find him.
Love,
Nutmeg

We awoke to desperate news. The children are going away on holiday !
They’re to spend two nights camping beside a big lake, lighting fires and swimming and canoeing … and doing all sorts of dangerous things. Well, Nutmeg won’t hear of letting of them go without us. So we’re going to stow away in their rucksacks and go too! Oh, dear, I’m sure I won’t like it one bit.
Love,
Tumtum

We had a lovely weekend at the Vicarage. I wore my pink ball dress, and on Saturday we feasted and waltzed all through the night. Tumtum had been dreading it, because he is rather shy, but when he saw the banquet spread out in Mrs Chipmouse’s dining-room he felt quite differently. There were all his favourite things – beetle mousse, roasted flies, cockroach roulade, and a trifle with toasted almonds on top.
But when we got back to Nutmouse Hall, I found a terrible thing – a huge spider, curled up to sleep in our kitchen sleep! It’s so big, its leg are spilling out. If it stands up, it will be taller than I am! Tumtum and I are both frightened of spiders, and we don’t know what to do.

Nutmeg

Yawn! No sooner had I fallen asleep after lunch, than Nutmeg shook me awake again with some terrible news. We’re going away for the weekend! We’ve been invited to stay with Nutmeg’s niece in the Vicarage, and there’s to be a big party with music and dancing …. and we won’t be back at Nutmouse Hall until Sunday afternoon!
Nutmeg’s very excited, as we haven’t had a dance for ages. But I’d much prefer to go on snoozing. I wonder what sort of music young mice play at their parties these days. I’m sure I won’t be able to dance in tune.
Yours in dread,

I hope you’re all asleep, for it’s nearly midnight. But there’s to be no rest for me tonight. I’m off to the attic to polish Lucy’s ballet shoes and darn Arthur’s socks. And I suppose I’d better correct their homework too, and brush out their satchels, and … Oh, stop! I shall be working all night long! I wish Tumtum would help, but he’s eaten three helpings of cockroach pie, and now he’s sunk into his armchair with a bottle of port. And when Tumtum sinks down, it’s very hard to raise him up again, so I think I’ll have to leave him be. Unless you’ve any bright ideas for making him stir ….
Good night, sleep tight.
Love,
Nutmeg xxx

Oh, please will someone give Tumtum the answer to 124 x 13!
He’s asked me ten times in the last five minutes, and if he asks again I think I shall squeal!

Hello,
We’re both up in the attic. Nutmeg’s cleaning the dolls’ house, and I’m sitting on the floor, scratching my furry forehead while I try to correct Arthur maths homework. He has to hand it in tomorrow, and I want to be sure he doesn’t make a single mistake. But it looks very difficult. The first question is:
124 x 13 = ?
Arthur’s put 1736, but I’ve a feeling he’s got it wrong. Oh, I wish I could remember my long division.
I’ll be very grateful if anyone could give me the right answer … Please !

Would you believe it if Nutmeg didn’t burn the sausage rolls! And her larder’s nearly bare, so all I got for lunch was a piece of bread and a slither of cheese and a slice of apple and a little bit of ham and an even littler bit of bacon and a herb omelette and some left-over apricot tart and a chocolate biscuit or two. Not much for a growing mouse like me! And it’s ages until teatime …
